I've just added two new videos for subscribers to Learn the Art of Joomla to the Joomla 1.6/1.7 component section.  Each video covers an aspect of preparing the backend component for packaging.

Lesson 2.23 Packaging the component - part 1

This lesson covers some final touches to the backend component such as adding imags and a stylesheet for the toolbar and component menu branding icons.

Lesson 2.24 Packaging the component - part 2

This lesson looks at expanding the XML manifest file for a Joomla component to make it installable, and then works through the manual process of making the package, installing it and looking at the results in the file system and the database.

The next block of lessons will cover automating packaging with Phing and looking at how to store a Joomla extension project in a code repository like Github.com.
