I've just added a new video for subscribers to Learn the Art of Joomla to the Joomla 1.6+ component section.  The video covers how to add category support to your component.  I'm also happy to announce the first Joomla Platform tutorial about improvements to the JLog class!

Lesson 2.22 Adding category support

This lesson shows you how easy it is to add category support to your component.  It show you how to add the a submenu that will also work with Joomla's category component as if you included it in your own component.

This video has also been produced in 1024x768 format to suit playback on the iPad.

Full source code is now freely available at https://github.com/eddieajau/joomla-hello-world.

Logging with JLog

The Joomla Platform includes a Log package that allows for configurable, hook-driven logging to a variety of formats.

The classes included in the Log package are JLog, JLogEntry, LogException, JLogger as well as the classes JLoggerDatabase, JLoggerEcho, JLoggerFormattedText, JLoggerMessageQueue, JLoggerSyslog and JLoggerW3C which support formatting and storage.

If you aren't a subscriber, review the video production schedule and sign up now!  There is a package to suit your budget and learning pace.
